Thursday-a day in the life of a preschooler...

Instead of just a few highlights I decided to show you a typical day here at lil' chickadees! Our morning starts with journals...which you all know because when you drop them off that's where you plant them!  But after 10 or so minutes of journals we head to circle time.  Every day we do calendar and then we count how many days we have had in the month so far...they are getting good at counting!  We talk about the numbers, I point to a few to see if they can tell me what number it is, if there is a holiday that month, we count how many days till the holiday.  The calendar is all about numbers, not really the date!!
Depending on the day detremins what is next.  Well this is Thursday so
we glue our pictures into our ABC book. (If this were Tuesday I would pulling items out of my ABC bag that start with out letter for the week...)  Then we sing our ABC song...the A say AAAA...that one!  It's long but the kids are learner and they like it!  Morning circle time is always finished with a quick story, then it's off the free time.  Free time is broken up into six categories, I usually pick three things to set out:
  • Science
  • Art
  • Dramatic Play
  • Writing and Literacy
  • Math
  • Sensory
Today's were Writing, Math and Dramatic Play.  Writing, we are working on perfecting our hand control by following the lines (a 5 week program).  Math was Ducky game (learning shapes) and Dramatic play is ALWAYS available at free time and ALWAYS a favorite.
After cleaning up free time, We move on to Art or Science.  Today being the first of the month, we did an art project for our class tree!  We made heart butterflies.  We talked about butterflies and I showed them my butterfly in my jar.  It's not real but it flies around and looks very real...yes they all thought it was real...anyways I thought their butterflies turned out adorable!
While we wait for all of our friends to finish cleaning up art we sometimes have time for a story or two...

Next we have music time or story time, or sometimes a combo of both if we have time!!  Today we did scarves...
It was an active day and we really worked up an appetite...time for lunch!!!
Next, a number of things could happen...it generally involves a group activity of sorts. Shape, letter or number bingo, fishing for alphabets or Aargh (memory game) are a few of our favorites.  Then generally it ends with a few books and or songs.  HOWEVER, when the sun is out there is no stopping us from going outside...
And that is the day of a fun filled preschool day!
