lil chickadees Grand Re-Opening

When I quit teaching preschool 3 years ago, I had mixed emotions.  I really enjoyed and loved being an influential part in young children's lives.  I took 3 years off so that I could devote my time to our children, especially our youngest child Lacee, and I don't regret it one bit.  I really enjoyed being with her 24/7 and helping her grow.  She is now 4 years old and going into her second year of preschool.  I have been feeling lately that something was missing and I finally figured out what it was...it was my preschoolers. My love for teaching started as a child and has carried throughout my entire life. I have appreciated the little break I took to be with my children (especially my Lacee Boo), but I am over the moon excited to start teaching preschool again. I love to see kids learn and grow from their preschool experiences.  So...without further ado...I'm officially Re-Opening my preschool and I'm so excited to do so.  Who's ready to join me?

If you would like to read more about me and my family click here. If you would like to get an idea of what classroom life is like, click here.

Each class will meet 3 days a week for 3 hours. Our first day of school will be Tuesday, September 4th. Mark your calendars!

I hope you all found the class picture in their folder with their "interviews", which I got a good kick out of!   Give your kids a hug for me!! I miss them so much...

Zz is for Zebra

We did it!! We finished our alphabet!! We made it through...
These were fun Zebra's to make! It was a two day project but super fun.  I did them one at a time to make it more manageable & it worked out perfect.

Free time...the kids build this cool car train and then they all play "teacher Kelli"  lil cuties!!

Yy is for yarn paintings...

So...not every project turns out as expected :), but they always turn out cute right! For Yy I saw a cute idea online to make a pattern with yarn and then the kids would paint it and then you take the yarn off and there would be a cool line pattern.  Well that didn't really happen...but...oh well! We had fun anyway!

During free time the kids made me lunch!! Broccoli, cookies and french fries and a flower to go with my meal...felling loved :)!

Xx is for X-ray

So I have to say I'm a little bummed at how these turned out.  Apparently black is made with red, yellow and blue so they dried more colorful then I wanted!! They looked good while they were dying them, but then they dried so light and colorful...the one time I just want a project to NOT be colorful.  Oh well...the kids thought they were super cool and and loved looking at our x-rays we brought in!  Those were very fun!!!

And we were so blessed with beautiful sunshine this week that we got to enjoy the outside!! Love the sunshine and playing outside!
I hope all you moms enjoyed your cute cards and had a beautiful Mother's day! You are all great moms and have raised beautiful, smart preschoolers!

Ww is for Watermelon

I just realized I was missing Ww as I was scrolling through pictures and found this cute Watermelon pic :)!  Aren't these darn cute kids? I can't believe this school year is almost over!
Watermelon Popsicle, which were suppose to be watermelon shakers made with paper plates..but apparently we went through all of our paper plates so we had to quickly improvise :)! Just as cute, right?!?!

I hope you all have been enjoying your beautiful bracelets and necklaces lately, I don't know why this is the favorite free time activity lately, but I think we have gone through an entire jar of beads!!  Making things for our moms is fun!

And we are doing good on our letter practice!! We have made it to our first treat and almost to the end and I have to say the name writing is lookin' pretty good...keep up the practicing at home!

Vv for volcanoes

Finger painting our volcanoes was really fun! We had a first...ALL of the kids finger painted, we usually have one and sometimes two that don't like the gooey cold feeling of paint on their fingers! I thought it was a big accomplishment that everyone was happy to participate!
Worked on our opposites again and I think everyone is getting it! They really are figuring it out! And we are doing great with our numbers!  Here they are matching them up their turtles with the right number!
OK! I saw this little science experiment on Facebook and I had to try it with the kids.  They were super impressed! We first talked about our hypothesis, they came up with a few good ones. "I think the milk will turn bubbly", "I think it will be magic", "I think the milk will turn to soap" and my personal favorite..."Well milk is cold, so if we put colors in it, I think it will make Popsicles!!" Oh preschoolers are so fun! Did anyone get the chance to try this at home?!?!
Well we are in the home stretch!  This will be our lasts' month tuition! I can't believe we have almost finished this year!

Uu is for Umbrella

What a gorgeous day we had on Thursday! The kids were in heaven playing games outside and blowing bubbles!! So nice when that spring sun comes out!!
Free time!! Everyone was really into beads this week...? I hope you all enjoyed your beautiful necklaces!!

Uu is for umbrella!  We stamped and then glued our umbrellas on paper...the pipe cleaners/handles wouldn't stick on so we ended up taping them on...oh well it worked!

Catch up...

So we are almost done with the alphabet!! We review all the letters consistently each week! By now you should be able to point to the letters in the alphabet and your kids should know at least half of them and if this is their second year, they should know at least half the sounds too but probably know all of the letters.  Continue to practice at home, while your reading books, while your driving around, ask them what the Bb says or talk about what things start with the letter H.  Give them the sound and see how many words you guys can think of!!

If you feel like they need a little more practice, the Dollar Tree has cute flashcards. There are also lots of cute apps, my favorite is ABC Tracer.  I think it is a couple bucks but my 6 year old still loves it and has probably been playing it for 3 years.  It has lots of little games on it! I think there is a free version so you can try it out and see if your kiddos like it!

Teaching your kids is easy, when your reading books, just point out the letters in their names, ones they are familiar with.  Lots of kids will often know the first letter of their siblings names too, so you can point those out too.  Just the more you read and sing and talk to your kids, the smarter they will become! I recently went to a class on reading with children and got so much good info! I'm going to see if I can get a packet for each of you, but in the meantime, here were the highlights!!!

But to be totally honest I think all of your kids are smarty-pants.  I don't see any serious issues with any of them. I honestly think they will all do great in school. You parents are all amazing at teaching your kids!! I am blessed to have a great bunch of kiddos!! Just keep up the great work over the summer and they will all be set :)!

Tt is for Trains!

Tt is for train!  And some darn cute trains at that :)!!  The kids had fun making these...I loved that they wanted to add smoke and clouds and little things to attach their cars and people.  I love that they thought about things like that.  That was on their doings.  I just provided tracks and paper to make cars and wheels!
So the month of April we are trying really hard to get our names down perfect!!  We have these writing papers that are a 5 week series.  Each week it has different things for the kids to follow and it helps them with forming letters.  In years past this is kind a boring for the kids :)!  So this year I decided to jazz it up a bit and make this little board.  Each worksheet that they do they get a sticker and when they reach the purple and green box they earn a treat!!  For the kids that are still struggling with writing their names I laminated each of their names and when they trace their names perfectly they can earn another sticker!  For those that have it down, I wrote their name on lines paper and laminated it and they will be working on writing it on the line!

Some fun at free time....
