Week 25: Easter Celebration

Thursday after preschool last week I jumped on a plane to Salt Lake City and got home Monday night.  I thought about preschool and thought...yeah I think I have everything ready, I don't need to look at my lesson plan folder...what did we do last week? Oh yeah Uu, so Vv is for Velcro and I already bought everything for that.  K, I'm good!
Then we had a great day on Tuesday and did our letter V read our V books, switched out our flash cards, sang our songs. Then after preschool I was talking to Cali and how busy Costco was and we were both wondering why and I said, OH Easter is this weekend! And in my head I thought, OH crud Easter is this weekend, this week was Easter crafts! That will teach me to ALWAYS look at my lesson plan even if I think I remember everything ;)!! We'll just pretend we didn't do V yet! And we got all our cute Easter things in on Thursday and the kids even said, this was the funnest day of preschool...so I think I'm good! I think I am covered!
We painted Easter eggs.
We matched our lower and upper case letters. Love these faces :)
Enjoyed music time. Do as I'm Doing...

So this was our fun science experiment I adapted from Little Bins, Little Hands. I think the kids liked it just because it involved water...what's with kids and water? We first took hypothesis' on our 4 items, beads, pom-poms, quarters and marbles:
  • When dropped in the water will they sink or float?
  • When put in an egg will it make the eggs sink or float?
The guesses were pretty evenly split, but here were our results:
  • Pop-poms float and when put in an egg, still float!
  • Marbles sink and when put in an egg, they float!
  • Marbles sink and when but in an egg, they float!
  • Quarters sink and when put in an egg they sink the egg!
It was fun to see them get so excited when they were right about their guess.  We talked about why they think marbles float when they are in an egg or why quarters sunk an egg, I was impressed that they came up with some great answers, they were pretty spot-on!

What is going on in this picture below you ask? Well...the lunch volume was a little higher than usual (pre-Easter excitement?) so I decided to turn on some music which usually gets them calm because they want to listen or sing along...well guess what song came on next on my "kid play list"?
FROZEN...which prompted a DANCE PARTY apparently!! Well I couldn't stop it...I didn't have the heart, it was too cute to see all the kids stand up in their chairs, sing at the top of their lungs and DANCE!! Oh man, melt my heart...love these kids.
Oh, side note: Speaking of melting my heart, the kids were talking about the baby in my tummy and someone asked what her name was...I told them we didn't have one yet and asked if anyone had any good ideas.  I started writing them down cuz it was cracking me up.  Here you go: Elsa (surprise, surprise, Cora, Princess, Zippy, Cinderella, Anna (again, shocker!), Olivia, Lona, Doggy (ummm...), Lisa, and last my not least Frozen!!! Any votes for any of those :)?

Week 34 Updates: Just For Fun

This week was all about FUN! We were wacky and played hard!  Here we are with our shaving cream smiley-faces, ready to paint the table!  FYI-do not, and I repeat, DO NOT use the gel shaving cream to paint the table!! I ran out of the cheap stuff so I just grabbed Mike's shaving gcream sitting on his counter...yeah not so easy to clean-up...let's just say I had to call in for back up after they were done (so grateful my 12 yr is out of school already!!)!! Ooops!! At least they had fun...
Straight from shaving cream was our water activity, yes that was strategically planed :)!  Thank goodness it was a beautiful day!!

Sponge painting with water...very fun!!
 Hockey tournament...

Horse shoes tournament! Can you tell I raided the dollar section at Target...they had some many fun things!
Water relay...
Playing restaurant and waiting for their end of tournament treats...COOKIES!!

And just like that...preschool is out!  I'm gonna miss these crazies!  Look at those silly faces...this was such a fun bunch of kids. They taught me so much, helped me become a better teacher and made me want to keep on teaching...I guess that's a good sign!! I love and miss you all already :'(

Week 32 Updates: Dad's

Dad's sometimes get forgotten since school is generally out by Father's Day hits, so we decided to continue our colors unit and fit in our Dad's! We figured painted something, mixing colors and making new ones would make a perfect card!  These turned into something but I don't want to give away the surprise to all you dads :)!! But here we are working on "something" cute!
And we listened to a record...yup, that's right a record!! We have a bunch of books on record and this is always a kid favorite, "Just Me and My Dad"  It's a cute book and the record is cute that goes along with it!  We also read "What Dad's Can't Do".  Another fun book and what inspired my Father's Day card, can't wait for you to see them :)!!
And someone had a birthday :)!! Always fun to celebrate birthday's at school!!  Thanks for the cupcakes and noise makers ;)!!

Week 31 Updates

What did the Lion have to do with our theme this week? Nothing, I just thought they were super adorable and I have been wanting to make them the past couple months but we already passed the letter Ll!!  So we did it this week just for fun! I have been doing lots of boring ol' worksheets to help us refine our handwriting so we gotta do something to fun it up!!

This is my favorite letter worksheet.  I don't know what it is about this one but the kids do really well at trying to stay in those lines.  It seems easier to do than tracing the lines.  You can find it here if you want to print some off at home for practice! It's on my favorite kids YouTube channel KidsTV123!! Their songs are great resources and free on YouTube!
Happy kids working on their color books (<-super cute book found here).  This week we have been working on our color words.  How the word looks, what each color starts with.  The kids are doing pretty good at figuring out the words.  Thanks to our helpful Kindergartener, we have been learning all the color songs.  I need to get his teacher to send me all the words and I will post them on here! They are super cute songs!

Boring ol' worksheets :)!!
