Where Pintrest Collides...

I saw a fun idea on Pintrest about making colored rice (<-got there for recipe) for a sensory table...HAD to do! Well as it was all pretty colored and sitting on my craft table I saw yet another idea on Pintrest and it was to make clear bean bags.  However the things she had in hers weren't as brightly colored as my flashy rice!! And then I realized I had 5 tubs of this beautifully colored rice and I couldn't resist!!   So out came 10 clear bean bags filled with colored rice!  I wasn't really sure what I was going to use them for but when I was finished I shook them to mix up the rice and they made the prettiest sound.  So at music time I pulled them out and the kids had a blast.

Notice I mixed the colors :)...I started off doing all blue and all green...then those little voices popped into my head, "I want green, I want pink...I didn't want purple..." So yes I made them multi colored!  Smart...I know!

Thursday

So not my favorite recipe for finger paint...I made one before that looked really pretty and turned out great on paper. This one, well, didn't look to hot to start with and looked even worse on paper.  Oh well, you win some, you loose some.  The kids had fun I guess that's all the really matters in my book.  But don't be surprised if you see a few more finger painting projects until I find the right one! Or if you have a favorite one, feel free to post it in the comments.  I'm always open to new recipes! I can't even remember where this one was from because I deleted the link soon after I made it and was unimpressed!
Anyway, Thursday was another fun filled day.  We are building our song library and the kids are really picking up on the songs we are learning.  Five Little Ducks I think is an all time favorite! And our alphabet song is still growing...
the A says aaa, the A says aaa, every letter makes a sound the A says aaa...the B says...you get the idea ;)!  We made it through to I this week and still going strong!!  It wouldn't be a bad idea to sing this with them at home and then ask them, "what starts with bu, bu, bu, B?" They are doing really well at coming up with words with their sounds.  You'll be impressed...give it a try!

cupcakes and coloring...

School is well on it's way.  I've been laying in bed for hours thinking up lesson plans and craft projects, recipes and songs.  I am so excited for preschool to start.

Early this week we had a preschool Cupcake and Coloring Party were I got to meet all my new and adorable students.  That only made the anticipation grow more.

I have the most ideal class, 3 boys and 3 girls.  Three of them are 4 and three of them are 3...evenly split in every way! Next year when I have students coming out my ears (fingers crossed!) and a waiting list (again more fingers crossed!), I hope to have 2 classes; a 3 year old class and a 4 year old class.  But while we are just a humble little establishment of 6...we'll make do!

But I wanted to   share my Yummy recipe from our Cupcake and Coloring Party...it was a BIG hit!
This is pre-frosting I guess...Anyway I found the recipe on one of my favorite recipe blogs Our Best Bites. She made these Colorburst cupcakes (her's were of course cuter than mine...whatever!) that I thought would be fun to try.

Colorburst Cupcakes
1 white cake mix
2 eggs
1 C yogurt (any smooth textured fruit flavor is fine!) or sour cream
1/2 C milk
1/3 C vegetable oil
Combine all ingredients until incorporated (about 30 seconds). Scrape sides of bowl and then beat on med-high speed for 2 minutes.
Divide batter according to how many colors you are using. I used 5 colors and it worked out to a little over 1 cup for each color, but each cake brand will be slightly different.
Use food coloring to color batter to desired intensity.
To get a layered stripe like I used, you’ll want to put a spoonful of each color in the cupcake one at a time. The batter is thick, so it won’t spread on it’s own. A great tip is to set out a little bowl of water where you’re working. Dip your finger in the water and then gently spread the batter out. The water will make it so the batter doesn’t stick to your fingers.
Another tip is to use a measuring spoon and some water to measure out how many teaspoons/tablespoons are going to fit in your cupcake. Then divide that by how many colors you have so you know how much of each color to use for each cupcake. For my 5 colors, it worked out perfectly with 2 t of each color in each cupcake. So I put in 2 t of blue in the bottom of each cupcake and spread it out with my finger. Then I put in 2 t of green on top of that, then yellow, etc.
Bake them according to the package directions, until a toothpick comes out dry.
